Daily Prayer and Self Examination “WILL” Give You a Personal Relationship with God
It will be as real and tangible a relationship as any you have. You “WILL” see His hand in you life.

The practice of daily prayer actually begins in the evening. The evening practice will take time since it is new and keeping track of your day isn’t something you are used to. It will get easier and easier as time goes on and you will find yourself beginning to make note of things in your day and even correcting yourself more as your awareness increases.

Self Examination

At Night – I pray to review my day. I do this to admit my shortcomings to God and to become ever so slowly more aware of my flaws. It is not about beating myself up but simply to come to know myself and where I need to grow. This is the act of dying daily so that I may awake anew. As I do this it also changes my thinking. Again I grow. Over time it has become a conversation that I have with God and as comfortable as any thing I do.

Here are the instructions from the text where I learned it.

When we retire at night, we constructively review our day. Were we resentful, selfish, dishonest or afraid? Do we owe an apology? Have we kept something to ourselves which should be discussed with another person at once? Were we kind and loving toward all? What could we have done better? Were we thinking of ourselves most of the time? Or were we thinking of what we could do for others, of what we could pack into the stream of life? But we must be careful not to drift into worry, remorse or morbid reflection, for that would diminish our usefulness to others. After making our review we ask God’s forgiveness and inquire what corrective measures should be taken.

This is the practice for the morning and through out  the day.

Take a moment and read this. This is my morning ritual. I have done this every day for almost seven years now. It may seem strange or new at first but after you do it long enough it becomes part of you and normal. It’s like anything in life. If I practice it long enough I get good at it, or comfortable with it. I would no sooner do without this now than to go with out food or water. This is a “means to grace”. By practicing the “means to grace” my thinking has actually changed. This is the beginning of the “psychic change” or “renewing of the mind”.

Say Good Morning God I am here (present) be with me.

Sit very quiet and think this. “I am here, be with me.”

Now if you are present, pray:

God, I offer myself to Thee — to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt.
Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will.
Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life.
I give you my will and ask that you guide me through my day that I may use my will to do yours.
I ask that you give me peace that I might have intuitive thought and live an intuitive life and give peace to others.
May I do Thy will always!

Take a moment in Silence.

Now be present and read this prayer:

(St Francis Prayer – Focuses on being selfless.)

Lord, make me a channel of thy peace–that where there is hatred, I may bring love–that where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness–that where there is discord, I may bring harmony–that where there is error, I may bring truth–that where there is doubt, I may bring faith–that where there is despair, I may bring hope–that where there are shadows, I may bring light–that where there is sadness, I may bring joy.  Lord, grant that I may seek rather to comfort than to be comforted–to understand, than to be understood–to love, than to be loved.  For it is by self-forgetting that one finds.  It is by forgiving that one is forgiven.  It is by dying that one awakens to eternal life.

Take some time in Silence to listen and contemplate.

After contemplation End with:

Thank you God for receiving me into your presence and walk with me through out my day.
In your name I pray.
Amen and Amen…

Through out your day constantly pause and ask God, no matter how well you do or don’t know Him at this point, what to do or say before you speak or interact with the world and the people in it. You will know Him more as you continue this practice. This is how you grow your Relationship with Him.

Here is what WILL result from these practices:

Evening review of your day will show you your shortcomings and you will come to know why you need a relationship with God.

Morning prayer and calling on Him throughout the day will give you a relationship with Him. You will see how He works in your trials and in your blessings. As your relationship grows by this ongoing communication, same as any relationship, you will see more and more EVIDENCE of Him in your life which will turn into TRUST and eventually into an UNSHAKABLE FAITH!

Even if you do these things in disbelief do them with sincerity and in time you WILL find what I have found.

  • A relationship WITH GodTRUST in GodA NEED for God… and an UNSHAKABLE FAITH that God is your Father and provider.
